TIMB Appoints Emmanuel Matsvaire as CEO

The Tobacco Industry & Marketing Board has announced the appointment of Emmanuel Matsvaire as its Substantive Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.

Matsvaire brings over 16 years of leadership experience within the tobacco industry to his new role. His expertise spans strategic agricultural management, sector planning, and industry transformation.

According to a statement released by TIMB, Matsvaire has "a proven track record in spearheading reforms aimed at boosting production, increasing revenue, and embedding sustainability across the tobacco value chain." He is noted for his skills in stakeholder engagement, regulatory compliance, and leading high-performing teams through complex transitions.

Matsvaire holds an MSc in Agribusiness from Africa University, a BSc (Hons) in Operations Research & Statistics from NUST, and an MSc in Development Economics from Bindura University of Science Education. He also possesses a BSc (Hons) in Agriculture and Natural Resources Management from Midlands State University and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Agricultural Economics at the University of Zimbabwe.

His key achievements include championing industrial value addition, leading sustainability and social impact initiatives, and launching major digital transformation initiatives, such as biometric grower registration and digitized export/import permits. Under his previous leadership, Zimbabwe achieved its highest ever tobacco production of 296.2 million kilograms in 2022. He is also credited with pioneering Zimbabwe's first World Tobacco Africa Expo, which enhanced the country's international market visibility and positioned it as a global tobacco leader.

TIMB expressed confidence that Matsvaire "embodies the future of smart, sustainable and resilient agriculture."
