ZRP Denies Allegations of Senior Officers Selling Rations Intended for Junior Officers

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has dismissed claims that its senior officers are selling food rations meant for junior officers.

The allegations, published in a local newspaper, have raised concerns among rank-and-file police officers, particularly in the Harare Metropolitan province.

According to several junior officers who spoke anonymously to a local publication, there have been increasing reports of senior officials diverting food supplies intended for officers on duty, and selling them for personal profit. These officers claimed that some seniors view the food supplies as surplus, taking rice, sugar, eggs, and cooking oil home for personal use, depriving their subordinates of the intended benefits.

The canteen initiative, which was revived earlier this year by the government to provide meals for officers, was initially seen as a welcome move. Officers had hoped that the meals, which included lavish options like fried eggs for breakfast and meat for lunch, would address the widespread issue of food insecurity within the force. The initiative was also expected to curb corruption, particularly the solicitation of bribes to purchase food.
