The National Gallery of Zimbabwe (NGZ) will host a free tour of Tengenenge Art Community Centre in (TACC) Guruve on Saturday 10 December, 2022.
The TACC is a stone sculpture village which was founded by the late Tom Bloomfield, who died few years ago.
NGZ Director Raphael Chikukwa said the Centre is the birth place for the first generation of Zimbabwean sculptors and the NGZ owns the historic place.
“As the new Director of Tengenenge Community Centre, I am proud of this investment and those who are willing to support this historic centre. This is an opportunity to realise a home-grown project.
“We would like to build more accommodation for art buyers who would like to spend time at the centre. We also want to start a sculpture residency and holiday art camp for art students who would like to learn to sculpt,” Chikukwa said.
Some of the artists who came through the TACC include Slyvester Mubayi, Henry Munyaradzi, Fanizani Akuda, Bernard Matemera, Amali Malola, Enos Gunja and Josiah Manzi.
Chikukwa also said visitors will have an opportunity to buy works directly from the artists at the centre and the commission will go towards developing Tengenenge.
