Zimbabwe recorded a sharp 33.7% rise in reported crime in the first quarter of 2025 compared to the last quarter of 2024, with over 310,000 offences logged nationwide, according to a new report by the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency.
The “2025 First Quarter Crime Statistics Report,” based on Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) data, shows an alarming jump in criminal activity, with the national crime rate rising to 2,048.1 offences per 100,000 people, up from 1,532.3 in the previous quarter.
“The Zimbabwean community has of late experienced more incidences of crime that include theft, robbery, sexual offences, drug-related crimes and murder,” ZIMSTAT Director-General Tafadzwa Bandama stated in the report’s preface. He warned of the emotional, financial and societal toll posed by the growing wave of criminality.
