Leading retail chain Bhola Hardware City has been fined US$300 after being convicted of selling unapproved complementary medicines at its Harare outlet.
The company, operating under Glidwell Trading and represented by Bhavik Kanttial Jassa, 32, was found guilty at the Harare Magistrates’ Court. Magistrate Gamuchirai Gore handed down the penalty following a sting operation by detectives from CID Drugs and Narcotics.
According to the State, represented by Mandirasa Chigumira, officers received a tip-off and conducted surveillance at Bhola Mega Market on July 21. They observed the sale of unapproved health products and moved in.
During the raid, detectives recovered several bottles of Tsunami and tins of Essential Balm from tills and display cubicles—products not authorised by Zimbabwe’s medicines regulator.
Jassa was arrested on the spot and taken in for further investigation along with the seized goods.
Authorities have recently stepped up enforcement against the sale of unregistered medical products, warning that such items pose health risks to consumers.
