Man escapes from Chikurubi four months before finishing one year sentence

Police in Harare are appealing for information which will help them locate Danaishe Chinyama, 24, who escaped from Chikurubi Maximum Prison on December 7.

Posting on their Twitter handle, ZRP said the suspect was serving 12 months imprisonment for malicious damage to property and at the time of escape, had served eight months.

They said anyone with information must report at any nearest Police Station.

Since January 2021 to October 2022, a total of 116 inmates have escaped from correctional facilities according to the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services.

Prior, ZPCS said it is considering installing closed-circuit television systems at maximum prisons, adequately arming its officers and reinforcing the canine section to avert future prison breaks.
