Six people died and seven others were injured yesterday in a road crash near Chegutu when a Honda Fit and a Toyota KZ Double cab collided.
“Four people died on the spot while two others died on the way to the hospital,” said the police in a statement.
Police also said that the Honda Fit, which had eight passengers on board was involved in a head-on collision with the truck at around 10:00hrs at the 111km peg along Harare-Bulawayo Road.
The injured were taken to Chegutu District Hospital while the bodies of the deceased were taken to the mortuary of the same institution for post mortem.
Names of the deceased will be released in due course.
This brings the nation to a total of 14 deaths in road crashes over the past few days.
Most road crashes in the country are attributed to driver error.
Police and other stakeholders have urged road users to avoid negligence and bad driving habits to minimise crashes during the festive season.
In another case, police in Bulawayo are investigating a hit-and-run fatal road traffic accident.
An unidentified male victim aged between 30 and 35 was struck and killed instantly by an unidentified motorist along 12th Avenue at around 0200 hours on Sunday December 18.
The victim was wearing black and pink trousers, a grey and white boxer short, black jersey and black tennis shoes. The body of the victim was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem.
Police are appealing for anyone with information that may help identify the victim and or the culprit to contact the nearest police station.
