The Zimbabwe men's Under-17 national football team, the Young Warriors, were held to a nill all draw by Northern Region Soccer League side Black Mambas in a friendly match played on Friday at Morris Depot in Harare. The match was a crucial part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming COSAFA Under-17 Championship, which Zimbabwe is set to host.
The friendly game, which saw the Young Warriors go head-to-head with a more experienced club, provided a valuable test for the squad as they fine-tune their strategy ahead of the regional tournament. The COSAFA Under-17 Championship, which also serves as a qualifier for the Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations, will be held from September 11 to September 20.
The tournament fixtures are scheduled to take place at Ngoni Stadium in Norton and the Hearts Stadium in Harare. This marks a significant opportunity for the Young Warriors to compete on home soil and showcase their talent to a supportive local crowd. The government has already expressed its satisfaction with the team's preparations, with officials visiting the squad's training camp at Eaglesvale School.
The team has been challenged to make the nation proud, and this friendly match against a strong opponent like Black Mambas is a good indicator of where the team stands.
