Zimbabwean martial arts maestro, Shihan Wilfred “Zim Ninja” Mashaya, has once again brought global recognition to the nation after being named Weapon Champion of the Year at the prestigious World Humanitarian Martial Arts Festival and Seminar held in Budva, Montenegro, this past weekend.

The award, presented by Festival Director Grand Master Predrag Lazarevic, celebrates Mashaya’s exceptional contribution to martial arts, particularly his mastery of the traditional Okinawan art of Kobudo.

In addition to this accolade, Mashaya received a Ninja Award from European Grand Masters in Poland and a Special Martial Arts Friendship Award from Portugal, further cementing his reputation as a leading figure in international martial arts.

The festival, which drew masters and grandmasters from across Europe, was held under the theme “Stop Suicide” in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day.

Mashaya praised the initiative, describing it as “a noble way to spread a message of hope while standing in solidarity with the global call to prevent suicide.”

Shihan Mashaya’s recognition as Weapon Champion of the Year is especially notable, as he was the sole African representative at the festival, standing out among a distinguished group of European martial arts masters.
