Zimbabwe’s senior women’s handball team has departed the country for Lusaka, Zambia, where they will compete in the IHF Trophy Zone VI tournament from September 14 to 19.
The tournament carries added importance for the Zimbabwean side as it serves as a double-qualification event for the IHF continental stage and the African Games.
Head coach Tawanda Mapira said the team had prepared adequately for the competition and was ready to fight for victory.
“We had enough training, our ladies are fit, and we are ready to fight for victory,” said Mapira.

Zimbabwe Handball Federation vice-president Clemence Tauro said the players had put in extra effort during preparations, although financial constraints had affected the size of the travelling delegation.
“The ladies are putting in extra effort. It is unfortunate that we failed to travel with all of them due to financial reasons, but we believe in those who are going to represent our beautiful nation,” said Tauro.
“They are ambassadors of the country out there, so our support means a lot to them.”
The Zimbabwean team will now seek strong performances in Lusaka as they compete for qualification to the next stages of international handball competition.
