Scottland Bow Out of CAF Champions League

Zimbabwe’s 2025 Premier Soccer League champions, Scottland FC, have been eliminated from the CAF Champions League preliminary round after losing 3-2 on aggregate to Angolan giants Petro de Luanda.

The Mabvuku-based side had won the first leg 2-0 but suffered a 3-0 defeat in Luanda today, ending their maiden campaign in Africa’s premier club competition.

Scottland coach Norman Mapeza bemoaned his players’ failure to defend set pieces, which proved costly in the decisive encounter.

In his post-match comments, Mapeza said: “We failed to defend those set pieces. At this level, even in Europe, if you can’t defend set pieces, you get punished.”

The defeat marks the end of the Zimbabwean champions’ maiden attempt at the continental competition, having set their sights on progressing through the rounds and ultimately challenging for the title.

Scottland will now shift their focus to domestic fixtures, where they face familiar foes Hardrock FC, who are leading the league standings.

Attention will be on the domestic rivalry between the two financially backed clubs as Scottland seek to recover from their continental disappointment and refocus on their league campaign.
