Scottland have taken a commanding 2-0 advantage into the second leg of their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie against Petro de Luanda after securing a convincing victory on home soil.
The Zimbabwean side capitalised on an early setback for the Angolan visitors, whose goalkeeper was sent off just two minutes into the match, forcing Petro de Luanda to play the remainder of the contest with 10 men against Scottland’s 11.
Despite enjoying greater possession in the first half, Scottland struggled to break down a resolute Petro de Luanda defence, with both teams heading into the half-time break goalless.
Scottland eventually found the breakthrough in the 67th minute when veteran forward Khama Billiat finished off a brilliant cross from the right by Walter Musona, who had come on as a substitute for Emmanuel Jalai.
The hosts doubled their advantage in the 80th minute through Knowledge Musona, giving Scottland a valuable two-goal cushion ahead of the return leg.
Despite the comfortable home victory, Scottland head coach Norman Mapeza has warned his charges against complacency, insisting that playing against 10 men does not necessarily make a match easy.
“Winning against 10 men is not easy. We need to go there and fight. They have a very good team. We don't have to concede early,” Mapeza said.

The Scottland coach also praised the experience brought by Billiat and Knowledge Musona, whose goals proved decisive in securing the victory.
“That's why Knowledge Musona and Khama are here. The experience they are bringing to Scottland is priceless,” Mapeza said following the duo's contribution to the 2-0 win over Petro de Luanda.
The result also highlights a developing trend in Scottland’s recent matches, with the team having now recorded two victories against opponents reduced to 10 men on home soil.
In their opening CAF Champions League encounter against Nsingizini Hotspurs, Scottland faced a side whose defender was sent off shortly after kick-off before going on to secure a narrow 1-0 victory.
Against Petro de Luanda, Scottland once again benefited from an early red card to an opposition player, this time converting their numerical advantage into a more convincing 2-0 win.
While the two results underline Scottland’s ability to capitalise on such situations, the second-leg encounter in Angola is expected to present a different challenge.
Playing in front of their home supporters, Petro de Luanda will be determined to overturn the deficit, while Mapeza will be keen to ensure his team remains disciplined and avoids conceding an early goal that could revive the hosts’ hopes of progressing to the next round.
