A woman from Mayambara, Chitungwiza suffered a treble tragedy when her three grandchildren drowned while playing in an abandoned water-filled pit.
Neighbours who spoke to Zim Now narrated the tragedy as they have come to understand it:
“It was around 2pm when it happened, Gogo Nzara tried to help them when they shouted for help but failed. The water pool is not that wide but it’s probably deep,” one neighbour said.
Mavis Nzara, 68, had gone to gather firewood with her three grandsons Stephen Masaure,12, Blessing Ndhlala,15, and granddaughter Queentine Madamombe, 9.
The three children decided to play in a water-filled open pit.
The youngest two appeared to be in trouble and the eldest, Blessing, tried to rescue them.
But he too was soon floundering.
Gogo Nzara who was nearby had come rushing at the sounds of distress but failed to save any of the kids.
By the time other people rushed to the pool to render assistance. it was too late for all three kids.
More details to follow.
