Hurungwe Headmaster Sentenced to 12 Years for Sexually Abusing 14-Year-Old Minor

 

A 57-year-old headmaster from Matau, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for engaging in sexual relations with a 14-year-old minor, highlighting the nation's growing concern over child sexual abuse cases.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the convict, identified as the headmaster of a primary school, was proven in court to have initiated an illicit relationship with a minor between June 2022 and May 2024. 

After gaining the girl's trust, the headmaster lured her to his residence under false pretenses and committed the crimes.

The matter came to light when the victim confided in her mother, who then reported the case to local authorities. A medical examination confirmed the abuse.

Following a thorough trial process, the court found the headmaster guilty, sentencing him to a total of 12 years in jail, with four years suspended on the condition of good behavior.
