Warriors Botswana bid hits snag

ZIFA have been dealt a blow in their quest to stage their FIFA 2026 World Cup qualification showdown with South Africa in Francistown, Botswana next month.

This comes as the Botswana Football Association is understood to have also set their own World Cup qualification assignment at the same venue Obed Itani Chilume in Francistown.

Botswana are scheduled to play a day before the Warriors clash against Bafana Bafana.

Sources said ZIFA had been left in a quandary for a venue of the October 9 match against Bafana Bafana.

"It's a Catch 22 situation for ZIFA because there are no immediate alternatives from a logistical perspective as the other neighbouring countries will also be using their venues.

"The only grounds available for ZIFA now are Orlando in Johannesburg and Moses Mabhida in Durban," the sources said.

This development is not a blow to ZIFA but the chasing pair of Benin and Nigeria who are still fancying chances of snatching Group C at the death and had hoped that South Africa do not continue to benefit from playing their away matches in their backyard
