
Police are investigating two separate cases of baby dumping that have shocked communities in Harare and Bulawayo this week.
In the first incident, which occurred on 24 September 2025, a newly born baby girl was discovered at a dumping site in Kambuzuma Section 3,6 Harare. The infant, who had been placed in a black plastic bag, was found alive and rescued. She was rushed to Sally Mugabe Hospital where she is receiving medical care. Police have since launched investigations to identify and apprehend the person responsible for abandoning the baby.

In a separate case reported the following day in Bulawayo, the body of a newly born baby was found buried in a pit in Mganwini Extension. The remains were exhumed by an excavator during land development works. Police in Bulawayo have opened an inquiry to determine the circumstances surrounding the dumping and death of the child.
Authorities are urging members of the public who may have information on either case to come forward and assist with investigations, as concerns grow over the rising cases of baby dumping across the country.
