Mavis Java Madzivanzira sister to popular preacher Passion Java has once again appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court, this time to answer new fraud charges involving US$75,000.
Madzivanzira, a former City of Harare employee, is already facing multiple fraud cases currently being heard before the same court.
Prosecutors told the court that in December last year, a prospective homebuyer was searching for a residential stand in Harare and nearby suburbs. It is alleged that Madzivanzira, working with an accomplice, Danai Mawire who has since fled, learned of the buyer’s interest and offered to sell them Stand 877 Quinnington Township of Stand 163 Quinnington Township in Harare.

The State claims the two produced counterfeit documents that appeared to originate from the City of Harare, leading the buyer to believe the land was genuine. The complainant went on to pay US$75,000 for the stand.
The scam reportedly surfaced only when the buyer later approached City of Harare offices seeking building plan approval. Officials informed the complainant that the stand was privately owned and not council property.
After attempts to get clarity from Madzivanzira allegedly failed, she is said to have started avoiding communication and the buyer reported the matter to the police, resulting in her arrest.
Madzivanzira was released on US$300 bail and ordered not to contact witnesses. She must also report to the CID Commercial Crimes Division twice a week until the case concludes.
State prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawo handled the matter.
