
Backlyfield Chivenga, one of Zimbabwe’s most dynamic and progressive football coaches, has taken another major step in his career by joining Jadel Football Academy in China. This move marks a new chapter for the seasoned mentor whose coaching journey has spanned continents, youth development structures, and national team duties.
In an interview with Zim now Chivenga said ” it is a great honor and a much needed opportunity for my passion on development of the game and the players that I fully embrace and hope to get the most out of it while I also contribute my utmost best. I hope to grow in my work and continue to contribute to my country. "
Chivenga has established an impressive footprint within Zimbabwean football over the years. He has previously served as assistant coach for Harare City FC, the Zimbabwe national U20 men’s team, and head coach of the Zimbabwe U17 men’s team. These roles cemented his reputation as a committed developer of young talent and a coach with strong tactical insight.

His influence extends beyond Zimbabwe’s borders. Internationally, he has held roles such as Head of Football Development at Pretoria Athletic FC in South Africa, Head Coach at Juventus Academy Trivandrum Centre in India, and Technical Manager for Aces Youth Soccer Academy in Zimbabwe. These experiences broadened his technical outlook and exposed him to diverse football philosophies.
Chivenga’s passion for youth development has been evident throughout his career. At the grassroots and school level, he has coached at Curro Group of Schools in South Africa ( WoodhillCollege), Saint George’s College, helping groom promising young players. Earlier this year, he served as assistant coach to Gathrie Chipuka for the Zimbabwe U20 girls’ national team, which traveled to Rwanda. He was also the assistant coach for the Zimbabwe U17 men’s team that competed in the COSAFA tournament this year. Looking ahead, he has been the head coach of a ladies team Maningi Youth Soccer Academy for the 2025 season, where he was continuing to shape emerging girls' football talent.
His move to Jadel Football Academy in China positions him within one of Asia’s most ambitious football development environments.
