A two-month-old baby girl reportedly went missing in Gweru’s Central Business District on Saturday afternoon, prompting an urgent police appeal for information.
Midlands Provincial Police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident, saying: “A two-month-old baby girl was allegedly snatched by an unknown person at Edgars Stores veranda, Gweru Central Business District, on November 15 at about 1:40 PM.”
The baby’s mother, 26-year-old Faith Jakaza, had just finished breastfeeding before leaving the infant in the care of her six-year-old daughter while she went to buy bananas. Inspector Mahoko explained: “She briefly left the baby on the lap of the baby’s six-year-old sister to buy bananas from a nearby vendor.”
When Jakaza returned moments later, her older daughter was alone and told her that the baby had been taken.

He further reminded parents and caregivers to ensure children are kept under close supervision at all times.
