The Zimbabwe National Road Administration Chief Executive Officer, Nkosinathi Ncube, has lauded Delta Corporation Limited for its long-running Driver of the Year Competition, held on 21 November, describing it as a gold standard for corporate commitment to road safety, skills development, and national progress.
Speaking as Guest of Honour at the 2025 Delta Corporation Driver of the Year Competition at Delta Transport Services, Ncube said the event was more than a contest—it was a celebration of discipline, professionalism, and shared responsibility for safety on Zimbabwe’s roads.
“It is an honour and privilege to join you today at this important occasion. This event is more than a competition; it is a celebration of excellence, responsibility, and commitment to safety on our roads,” he said.
He commended Delta for sustaining the initiative since its launch in 1990, noting that its longevity reflected a tried-and-tested programme that continues to enhance professional development and operational efficiency.
The competition runs alongside the Forklift Truck Operators Competition, highlighting the interdependence between drivers on the road and operators in warehouses and loading bays.
Ncube emphasized that road safety is not solely the responsibility of government but a shared national duty.
“Through such partnerships, the private sector continues to demonstrate that road safety is not merely a government obligation, but a shared national responsibility,” he said.

The planned expansion of the competition to include light motor vehicle drivers was described as a progressive step to strengthen professionalism across the entire Delta fleet.
“This will ensure that every Delta driver, from the largest rig to the smallest delivery vehicle, embodies the same enduring culture of responsibility and precision,” he said.
Ncube also highlighted the competition’s contribution to national development by advancing human capital, safety culture, and sustainability. He acknowledged the support of strategic partners, including the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, and the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
“As ZINARA, we enjoy a very productive relationship with Delta. Clients with large fleets like Delta enhance our capacity to effectively discharge our mandate to collect and administer road user charges,” he said.
He revealed that Delta currently has about 940 vehicles on ZINARA’s licensing records and 854 ZINARA cards used at tollgates, praising the company’s compliance as a significant contribution to ZINARA’s One Million Mark Mission.
“Your compliance has advanced us significantly towards our target to license one million vehicles this year. Thank you for choosing to be one in a million,” he said.
