A 21-year-old cashier at Farm and City Centre in Zvishavane has been sentenced to an effective 18 months in prison after being convicted of stealing more than US$13,000 in company funds.
Danda Tinashe Tinotenda was found guilty of diverting US$13,422 that he had been entrusted to deposit into two ZB Bank accounts between September 16 and 24, 2025.
The court heard that Tinotenda, whose duties included collecting daily takings from till operators for banking, failed to remit the funds and instead used the money for personal purposes.

The offence came to light when routine checks revealed discrepancies in the company’s bank deposits. An internal review confirmed the funds had not been deposited, prompting the company to lodge a police report.
Bank statements attached to the investigation confirmed the missing amounts, leading to Tinotenda’s arrest and subsequent prosecution.
Magistrate Shepherd Munjanja sentenced Tinotenda to 36 months in prison. However, 9 months were suspended on condition of good behaviour, while another 9 months were suspended on condition that he restitutes the full amount by November 30, 2025.
This leaves him to serve an effective 18 months behind bars.
