Ten Teams Set for 2025 Marvelous Nakamba U-17 Tournament

Ten junior football teams have officially confirmed their participation in the 2025 Marvelous Nakamba Foundation Under-17 tournament, which will be held on December 13 and 14 in Hwange, the birthplace of national team midfielder Marvelous Nakamba.

The tournament, which has grown into one of Zimbabwe’s most popular grassroots football competitions, continues to offer young players an important opportunity to display their skills and attract the attention of scouts and professional clubs.

Organisers have confirmed that all preparations are in place, with the full list of participating teams now finalised. The teams taking part are Njube Spurs Academy, Hwange FC, Dete FC, Binga Academy, Victoria Falls Academy, Scottland Academy, G.G. Academy, Biya Academy, Highlanders FC and Nkayi Football Academy.

This year’s competition is expected to attract a strong turnout of supporters as interest in youth football continues to rise, alongside the increasing influence of the Marvelous Nakamba Foundation in youth sports development.

Organisers highlighted that the tournament goes beyond competition, focusing on giving young players hope and exposure. “This is not just about football matches. It’s about opening doors for young people and showing them what is possible. We are proud to host teams from across the country here in Hwange,” they said.

Coaches and talent scouts are also expected to be present, searching for promising players who could progress into development academies or senior teams. Past editions of the tournament have already seen several youngsters secure opportunities at top-level clubs.

The choice of Hwange as the host town remains symbolic, with the community celebrating Nakamba’s inspiring rise from a mining town to international football. Local leaders say the tournament continues to motivate many young athletes in the area.

The matches will be played over two days, with the final set for the afternoon of December 14. The champions will walk away with a trophy, medals and football equipment, while individual honours will also be awarded to outstanding performers.
