The Ministry of Skills Audit and Development has launched a nationwide audit of Zimbabwe’s agriculture sector, a move officials say is essential for strengthening food security, improving policy planning and attracting investment.
In a statement, the ministry said the audit is already underway and will provide government with accurate, up-to-date data on both crop production and livestock systems.
“The comprehensive audit of Zimbabwe's agriculture sector is now in progress, a critical step toward transforming our agricultural landscape,” the ministry said. “Accurate agricultural data is the foundation for sustainable growth.

According to the ministry, the audit will generate reliable data on crop and livestock production, identify gaps in agricultural infrastructure, inform evidence-based policy decisions, attract investment by improving statistical credibility and strengthen national food security planning.
The ministry said the exercise is being carried out in collaboration with partners including UNDP Zimbabwe, Seed Co and the Food and Agriculture Organisation.
Government has increasingly emphasised data-driven planning across key sectors, arguing that reliable statistics are essential for designing interventions, allocating resources efficiently and building resilience in the face of climate-related shocks.
