Four members of staff from Roosevelt Girls High School were detained at Highlands Police Station following a break-in that occurred on Thursday, 4 December. Thieves reportedly forced entry into the Levy Office bursar’s office, the government bursar’s office, and the headmaster’s office shortly after a science department party that ended around 8 pm.
According to a source close to the matter, the intruders broke doors and a safe before fleeing with an estimated USD 11,000. Among those apprehended for questioning are Levy bursar Amanda, science teachers Munemo, Muchanditya, and Antonio, Simone, as well as the school driver.
The investigation comes amid longstanding concerns over suspected corruption at Roosevelt Girls High School. In 2024, a case was reportedly opened regarding the charging of unapproved fees, the sale of school uniforms without undergoing tender processes, and the compulsory purchase of Edulight textbook combos for Form One students.

The same source alleged that the school had been operating three bank accounts—ZB, CBZ, and BancABC—despite the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education authorizing only ZB and CBZ for official fee and levy payments. The BancABC account was allegedly used for deposits related to unapproved charges such as administration fees, textbook combo payments, uniform purchases, and prefect training fees.
By 2025, suspicion had intensified, with claims that headmistress Lindiwe Lydia Ncube and bursar Amanda are accused of directly collecting cash for school uniforms. When contacted by Zimnow for clarification on the use of the third bank account, Ncube declined to comment, advising reporters to “call the Ministry of Education, not me.”
The source further alleged that Ncube had recently been overheard expressing frustration toward Amanda, reportedly telling her she had not instructed her to collect large sums of money.
Efforts to obtain police confirmation are ongoing. Zimnow reached out to Inspector Chakanza, who said he had not yet been briefed on the matter. “I will check on it… but I’m still occupied with a program, so I will look into it,” he said.
