A Kuwadzana man allegedly raped his former girlfriend after enticing her to his place of residence. The matter came to light when the mother of the girl, 17, quizzed her about her swelling legs and referred her for medical attention. It is then that pregnancy tests conducted revealed she was positive.

Arnold Murahwa, 24 of Kuwadzana, is now before the courts, being charged with raping a minor who is his former girlfriend, a Form 4 student at a local school.

The state heard that during the month of July, 2022, Murahwa met the complainant at Kuwadzana 5 shops and asked her for reconciliation, but she refused stating that he had no future.

He then asked the complainant to accompany him to his place of residence but she refused. He was later successful in persuading her and upon arrival, he grabbed the complainant's hand and he dragged her inside the dining room.

He had sexual intercourse with the complainant against her will. The girl did not report the matter until weeks later when the mother noticed abnormality in her legs that were swollen. She requested her to visit a local medical practitioner who examined her and established she was pregnant. It was then that the girl told her mother she had been raped by Murahwa.

In two other cases that were before the Harare Magistrates’ courts on the same day, two drug dealers from Budiriro 4 and another from Tafara were charged with contravening Section 157(1)(a) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23.
