Chitungwiza regional magistrate Clever Tsikwa adjourned to January 17 a case in which a Chitungwiza woman is being charged with the unlawful possession of dangerous drugs after she was found in possession of 141kg of dagga.

The woman pleaded not guilty.

Prosecuting, Pamela Dzinduwa said in March last year, Magret Mupanduki approached her uncle Gibson Makore requesting to rent out his fowl run so that she could raise poultry.

She was charged US$30 per month and was given the fowl run keys as well as gate keys to Makore’s property.

She had more than 40 chickens in the fowl run.

The court heard that on July 16, police detectives received intelligence that Mupanduki was procuring dagga outside the country and stashing it in the fowl run.

Police visited Makore’s house to conduct a search of the fowl run at the back of the main house.

Makore told them that he had no keys to the fowl run, leading to police force-opening the fowl run and recovering five sacks of dagga.

Police asked Makore to produce any document or licence that authorised him to possess the dagga but he indicated that Mupanduki was responsible for the fowl run.

The police called her but she said she was in Mbare and could not make it to the police station and police started looking for her.

On July 17, police intelligence officers located Mupanduki along Mharapara Road in the Makoni area and arrested her for illegally possessing dagga which weighed 141.55kg.
