A Victoria Falls Town Council worker Alvin Moyo sustained fractured ribs and a thigh after falling about 15 metres down the gorge on the Zambezi River while fishing on Friday.
Mlilo who, an engineering department employee at the local authority, landed on rocks below the cliff and also sustained a deep cut on the head.
Mlilo slipped while trying to negotiate his way down the gorges to access a pool below Lookout Care near Rapid 3 at around 10pm but only got assistance on Saturday morning when other fishermen saw him and alerted residents on Whatsapp.
He was later rescued by rafting guides who went into the gorges and stretchered him out before he was rushed to Victoria Falls Hospital. He was yesterday transferred to Mpilo Central Hospital for specialised medical care.
Rescue team leader Skinner Ndlovu, said it was not easy to get Mlilo out of the gorge, saying they mobilised other rafting guides to fetch him from the rocks in the gorge before carrying him along the river upstream where they managed to get him to the surface.
“He went fishing on Friday night and fell off the cliff as he walked around trying to reach a pool below Lookout Café. It happened around 10pm and we got a distress call on Saturday morning,” said Ndlovu.
