Guruve Spree Killer Suspect Faces Eight Murder Charges

Anymore Zvitsva

 

The suspected Guruve spree killer, Anymore Zvitsva, 33, who is facing eight counts of murder, two counts of attempted murder and two counts of rape, has been arrested.

Zvitsva was remanded in custody while receiving medical treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

He appeared before magistrate Vakayi Chikwekwe, who did not place him on plea. The magistrate advised Zvitsva to apply for bail at the High Court.

He was remanded to January 19, 2025, pending indictment to the High Court.

The State, represented by prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe, alleged that on March 6, 2025, at around 10pm in Rangwani Village under Chief Chipuriro in Guruve, the deceased, Jane Dube, was asleep in her bedroom with her three-year-old child when the accused approached her homestead.

Zvitsva allegedly demanded money and forcibly broke into the house. Dube managed to flee but was pursued into a nearby maize field, where the accused reportedly struck her several times with an iron rod, killing her. He then fled the scene.

In a separate incident on April 6, 2025, at Farm 16, Nyakapupu in Guruve, the deceased, Modester Isaac, had gone to herd cattle when Zvitsva allegedly confronted her, forced her into nearby bushes and raped her at knifepoint.

The court heard that Edilight Murimbika, who was herding cattle nearby, witnessed the attack and rushed to alert other villagers. Zvitsva allegedly strangled Isaac with a wire, hanged her from a tree and fled. Her body was discovered the following morning.

The State further alleges that on October 7, 2025, Alice Marangarire left her homestead to search for cattle in grazing fields when Zvitsva allegedly ambushed her, threatened her with a machete and strangled her with a wire. Her body was discovered the next day.

On October 27, 2025, at around 6am in Mubaiwa Village under Chief Bepura in Guruve, Elisha Dickens Chikwavarara and Dudzai Mazuvaawanda were on their way to a garden carrying water buckets when Zvitsva allegedly attacked them.

Chikwavarara was allegedly killed with an unknown object, while Mazuvaawanda was reportedly dragged about 20 metres away, strangled with a wire and hanged from a tree.

The court was also told that on the night of December 13, 2025, at around 9pm in Chitunhu Village under Chief Bepura, Fortune Mwazha closed her shop at Zvivindi Business Centre and retired for the night, securing the shop door from the inside.

Zvitsva allegedly forced his way into the shop, tightened a snare wire around Mwazha’s neck and choked her until she lost consciousness. 

After incapacitating her, he reportedly stole groceries before fleeing the scene, leaving Mwazha lying unconscious on the floor.
