Defiance Properties Fined for Unlawfully Operating as Property Valuers

Defiance Properties, a Harare-based firm, has been fined US$200 by the Harare Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty of unlawfully practising as a property valuer without the required registration.

The company, represented in court by its operations manager, Robert Chafa, 45, was convicted following investigations by the Valuers Council of Zimbabwe.

The court heard that the VCZ launched a probe after identifying an advertisement for valuation services placed by Defiance Properties in the Zimbabwe Real Estate Directory.

Subsequent checks revealed that the company was not listed in the VCZ’s official register of licensed property valuers.

Despite operating from Borrowdale and publicly offering valuation services, Defiance Properties failed to produce any evidence of registration or lawful authority from the VCZ, in contravention of the Valuers Act.

Magistrate Caroline Matanga found the company guilty of misrepresenting itself as a registered valuer and ordered it to pay a US$200 fine.
