The Avenues Clinic Unveils Refurbished Maternity Wing

The Avenues Clinic has officially reopened its maternity ward and critical care units after completing an extensive refurbishment, marking a significant milestone in its ongoing modernisation programme aimed at aligning facilities with international healthcare standards.

The refurbishment of the maternity wing follows the earlier completion of upgrades to the surgical, private and medical wards.

Speaking during a tour of the newly modernised facilities, the clinic’s General Manager, Sibusisiwe Ndhlovu, said the upgrades were guided by brand standards and patient feedback.

“We are confident in our clinicians and our clinical and nursing staff in terms of the quality of care they provide. What remained was to match that high standard of clinical care with infrastructure that reflects it,” Ndhlovu said.

She added that the redesigned maternity ward responds directly to patient needs and expectations.

The upgraded facility features seven private beds and eight shared beds, giving patients the option of enhanced privacy or more affordable shared accommodation.

In response to growing demand, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has also been expanded to four beds, with the hospital receiving referrals from institutions across the country.

“We are particularly proud of this unit because of the outcomes we achieve here. Babies born as early as 26 weeks have been admitted to this ward and discharged home after receiving specialised care,” Ndhlovu said.

Chief Financial Officer Peddy Chigunduru disclosed that close to US$4 million has been invested in infrastructure upgrades and the procurement of medical equipment, with approximately US$2.5 million allocated to specialised clinical technology, including neonatal equipment.

“In deploying capital, we are deliberately directing investment to the most impactful areas of the hospital. Infrastructure must align with the level of service we intend to deliver,” Chigunduru said.

Hospital officials indicated that refurbishment works remain ongoing as part of efforts to achieve and maintain world-class standards for patients.
