Karoi Town Council avoided the auction of key service delivery vehicles and equipment, after settling part of a US$120 000 debt that had triggered High Court attachment proceedings.
The Sheriff had moved to auction council property under case HCH5675/25 following a ruling in favour of former senior employee Sibongile Mujuruki over salary arrears, bonuses and unfair dismissal. Assets listed for sale included fire engines, graders, tractors, tipper trucks, utility vehicles, an ambulance and office equipment, raising fears of paralysis in refuse collection, road maintenance and emergency response.

Newly appointed Town Secretary Tongai Mandude, working with Alderman Kudakwashe Chigumo, convened emergency meetings and engaged the Ministry of Local Government to mobilise funds, leading to the withdrawal of the attachment.
“We could not allow key service delivery equipment such as fire engines, graders and ambulances to be auctioned,” said Chigumo. Mandude added:
“We have since made significant payments towards the debt, resulting in the withdrawal of the attachment. Our priority is to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.”
