Mufakose 1 High School is set to host the Korfball Opening Season Tournament on February 28, 2026 at the school grounds.
The event will mark the beginning of the sporting season and will also serve as a selection platform for players who may represent Zimbabwe at a tournament in the Netherlands scheduled for October 2026.
In an official invitation sent to various schools, Mufakose 1 High School encouraged institutions to participate in the prestigious korfball event. The tournament aims to provide young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their skills, compete at a high level, and potentially earn selection for international exposure.
According to the organisers, player selection for the Netherlands tournament will be based on individual performance during the competition. Schools whose players are selected will be responsible for covering their respective players’ expenses for the international trip.
TIC Korfball, Angeline Kashangura, highlighted the significance of the tournament, saying the purpose of the event is to develop and showcase skills against top-level competition while giving players valuable experience and exposure.

She said the vision is to foster international connections, promote sport diplomacy, and develop players for future national teams and competitions.
She also explained the selection process, stating that selectors will assess key skill areas such as shooting, passing and defensive ability, as well as physical fitness, including speed and endurance.
Attitude, particularly teamwork, will also play a critical role. The selection process will use the Nash system in combination with Zimbabwe Korfball Federation regulations.
Emphasising the benefits for selected players, Kashangura said participants will gain exposure to high-level competition, which will enhance their skills and experience. She added that the tournament will improve players’ profiles and recognition within the korfball community while offering opportunities for cultural exchange and networking.
The event is expected to attract several schools, making it a vibrant and competitive sporting occasion. With international opportunities at stake, the tournament is likely to inspire outstanding performances from talented young athletes across participating schools.
