Mbare Duo Accused of Using Dead Man’s ID to Sell Ruwa Stand

Two Mbare men were arrested after allegedly attempting to sell a deceased person’s property using a forged national identity card in a deal valued at US$28,000.

Robson Bwanali (46) and Frank Cheure (53) appeared in court facing fraud charges after allegedly tampering with the national identity card of the late Lovemore Charosa in a bid to sell his property.

The court heard that the duo allegedly replaced the photograph on Charosa’s ID card with Bwanali’s picture. The property in question is Stand Number 6519 in Ruwa Township.

They were arrested after a prospective buyer, Auther Makaza, reported the matter to the police.

According to the State, Makaza had responded to a Facebook advertisement for the property and arranged to meet the accused at Zimre Properties.

Bwanali allegedly presented himself as the owner using the forged ID, while Cheure posed as Charosa’s nephew. The pair had reportedly prepared a fraudulent agreement of sale listing the deceased as the seller.

Detectives later arrested the accused and recovered the fake documents.

Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that Makaza narrowly avoided losing US$28,000 as a result of the alleged scheme.

The two were remanded in custody until March 5 for a bail hearing before magistrate Ruth Moyo.
