An appeal has been made for the Zimbabwe Republic Police to put its house in order by the speaker who represented the mother to late Wedza Officer-in-Charge, inspector Maxwell Hove.

Hove was killed on Friday in a shoot-out with triple killer Jason Muvevi who had earlier shot a prophet at his shrine in Wedza. He was buried in Chinda Village, Mberengwa, on Thursday, January 19.

Speaking at his burial, his mother expressed disappointment at the state of things within ZRP, particularly in the area of equipment used. She was directing  her concerns to the Deputy Commissioner-General Crime, Lorraine Chipato, who was heading a delegation of police officers to the funeral wake.

“I am happy because I heard that there is a Deputy Commissioner-General of the Zimbabwe Republic Police present. I have this to say, madam, I am a bereaved mother who is hurt so please forgive me but you have to listen to me all the same.

“My son was in a police commissioned vehicle and we hear that the door of the car couldn’t open when he needed to disembark.

“As a mother, you would think if the car’s door had opened, things may have gone otherwise, we could be talking of someone who is in hospital injured. But then, as they say, wishful thinking is for the foolish.

“I also cannot understand how a ZRP gun fails to work properly …you definitely need to put your house in order,” she said in her speech.

Prior to meeting his demise, Hove had assembled his team to apprehend Muvevi who was now heading to Harare.

However, when Hove and his team intercepted the former police officer-turned-villain, he reacted and started firing at the police details which resulted in the death of Hove and injuring another police officer.
