A prominent fitness trainer was on Tuesday sentenced to 420 hours of community service by the Harare Magistrates’ Court after he pleaded guilty to stealing US$1,000 from a Mercedes-Benz parked at Pro Fitness Gym in Borrowdale.
Tinashe Gandari appeared before Harare magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini facing a charge of theft.
The court heard that on October 14, 2025, at around midday, the complainant, Allen Badzarigere, parked his Mercedes-Benz GLE at the Pro Fitness Gym car park at Sam Levy’s Village in Borrowdale.
Before heading in for a workout, he left US$5,000 in the vehicle’s glove compartment, locked the car and placed his car keys inside a satchel, which he took into the gym.

While the complainant was exercising, Gandari allegedly took the keys from the satchel, proceeded to the car park and used them to unlock the Mercedes-Benz. He then removed US$1,000 from the glove compartment before returning the keys to the satchel.
After completing his workout, Badzarigere returned to his vehicle and discovered that US$1,000 was missing from the glove compartment.
He reported the matter to the police, leading to Gandari’s arrest.
The stolen US$1,000 was subsequently recovered and produced in court as an exhibit.
Magistrate Dhlamini initially sentenced Gandari to 15 months’ imprisonment, with three months suspended on condition of good behaviour.
A further 12 months were suspended on condition that Gandari performs 420 hours of community service at David Livingstone Primary School.
