A local medical doctor, Micky Kondo, appeared in court today facing charges of fraud and defeating the ends of justice after he allegedly wrote a fake medical report to influence a child custody case in the High Court.
Magistrate Ruth Moyo released Dr. Kondo on bail and ordered him to return to court on April 8, 2026, as investigations continue.
The state’s case is that an unknown woman visited Dr. Kondo’s surgery at Eastgate Mediclinic and paid $500 for a consultation. After the payment was made, the woman reportedly left with a letter signed by the doctor. This letter was allegedly intended to help her win a custody battle by making professional claims about a businessman involved in the case.

Prosecutors argue that Dr. Kondo had never met or examined the businessman mentioned in the letter. They claim the document was "tailor-made" to mislead High Court judges and interfere with the legal process.
However, Dr. Kondo pleaded not guilty to the charges. In his statement to the police, he denied writing the document and called it a forgery. He told the court that while a woman did visit his clinic, he never authored a medical opinion about the businessman, whom he admitted he does not know and has never treated.
The case has sparked a debate over medical ethics in Zimbabwe and how professional documents are used in legal disputes. Police are still investigating how the letter was created and whether other people were involved in the plan.
