Lebo M Reaches Out to Learnmore Jonasi as Lawsuit Drama Takes New Turn

The ongoing dispute between South African composer Lebo M and Zimbabwean comedian Learnmore Jonasi may be moving toward a possible resolution after the musician initiated efforts to open dialogue between the two sides.

Lebo M, best known for his work on The Lion King, is currently suing Jonasi for US$27 million, alleging that the comedian used one of his songs in a comedy routine without permission. The matter sparked widespread discussion online and across the entertainment industry.

In a new development, Lebo M’s team confirmed that the internationally acclaimed composer has instructed them to reach out to Jonasi in an effort to find common ground.

“Lebo M confirms he has instructed his team to reach out to Learnmore while he is currently on tour, in an effort to find common ground and bring this matter to a constructive close,” said Lebo M’s spokesperson Tshepo Mboni.

An independent intermediary has also been brought in to help guide discussions and explore the possibility of a structured settlement between the two parties.

Sources close to the matter say the move is being viewed as a gesture aimed at lowering tensions and creating space for meaningful engagement. While the legal action remains in place, the tone of the latest communication signals a willingness to pursue dialogue alongside the protection of intellectual property.

“This outreach represents a good-faith effort to de-escalate tensions and open the door for meaningful engagement without compromising the protection of intellectual property and cultural legacy,” the statement added.

For now, discussions are still at an early stage, and no formal agreement has been reached. Further updates are expected as the talks progress.
