A 25-year-old woman appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court facing extortion charges after allegedly deceiving a married man into sending her money by falsely claiming she was pregnant with his child.
Talent Kwenda, also known as Bhibidho, of Sunningdale, is accused of extorting money from Pax Jema of Bluffhill through a fabricated pregnancy and child-upkeep scheme.
According to court proceedings, Kwenda allegedly informed Jema in February 2025 that she was pregnant with his child and later claimed to have given birth to a baby boy named Roland.
The court heard that Jema sent money towards the upkeep of the alleged pregnancy and child. However, when he requested to see the baby, Kwenda allegedly avoided meeting him, offering various excuses.

Prosecutors said Jema later received information suggesting that the pregnancy and birth claims were false, prompting him to stop sending money.
It is alleged that Kwenda then threatened to expose Jema’s extramarital affair to his wife unless he continued providing financial support.
Jema reported the matter to police, leading to Kwenda’s arrest.
Kwenda was remanded in custody pending further court proceedings.
