The court heard that Tirivangani had purchased goat meat from Nyowana on credit and had paid US$20, leaving an unpaid balance of US$10. On the day of the incident, Nyowana demanded payment of the outstanding amount, which led to a heated confrontation between the two men.

During the altercation, a friend of the complainant struck Tirivangani once on the arm with a machete. In retaliation, Tirivangani drew an okapi knife from his pocket and stabbed Nyowana once in the stomach.

The attack caused severe injuries, with Nyowana’s intestines protruding from the wound. He was rushed for medical treatment following the assault.

The knife used in the commission of the offence was recovered and produced in court as an exhibit.

Tirivangani pleaded guilty to attempted murder, and the court returned a conviction in line with his plea, sentencing him to an effective six-year custodial term.
