Chess Leader Kripo Chivhenge Dies After Short Illness

The Zimbabwean chess community is mourning the sudden passing of Kripo Chivhenge, a respected administrator and passionate advocate for the growth of the game, who died on 25 April 2026 following a brief illness.

Chivhenge, served as the provincial chairperson for Matebeleland North under the Zimbabwe Chess Federation (ZCF), reportedly fell ill after sustaining an ankle injury while playing social soccer. What initially appeared to be a minor injury quickly worsened, leading to his hospitalization and, tragically, his death within four days.

Chivhenge is expected to be buried in Bulawayo, with funeral arrangements taking place shortly after his passing.
