A Norton woman, Felicia Maravanyika, 21, was sentenced by Harare magistrate, Caroline Matanga, to perform 208 hours of unpaid work following her conviction of using fake Ordinary Level results to apply for a job in the Zimbabwe Republic Police.
Matanga, who found Maravanyika guilty of fraud, initially sentenced Maravanyika to 12 months imprisonment before suspending eight months on condition that she does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
She put aside another four months on condition that Maravanyika performs 208 hours of community service.
The ZRP is the complainant and is being represented by Superintendent Siphosami Tshuma, who works in the Recruiting Section at the Police General Headquarters in Harare.
It is the State’s case that April 18, 2021, the ZRP invited applications from individuals who met its recruitment criteria to join the police force.
Maravanyika produced a fake Zimbabwe School Examinations Council Ordinary Level certificate for the November 2019 examinations in her name, purporting that she had passed eight Ordinary Level subjects before applying and attaching the fake “O” Level certificate at ZRP Mhondoro.
Police considered her application and referred it to the PGHQ, where she was placed on a waiting list while her certificate was sent to Zimsec for verification.
Zimsec, the court heard in May 2022, that Maravanyika had tendered a fake Ordinary Level certificate, leading to her arrest.
