Govt Signs MoU With Liquid to Establish Software Development Hub

Zimbabwe’s MMinistry of Skills Audit and Development has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Liquid.tech⁠ to establish a Software Developer Skills Development Hub as Government intensifies efforts to expand digital skills training and technology innovation.

The Ministry said the partnership is aimed at strengthening software development capacity and supporting the growth of Zimbabwe’s digital economy.

In a statement, the Ministry said the agreement forms part of efforts to position Zimbabwe within the regional technology and innovation space through skills development initiatives.

The development comes as Government increasingly promotes digital infrastructure, innovation hubs and technology-based industries under the National Development Strategy 2.

Zimbabwe has in recent years accelerated investments in ICT infrastructure and digital systems, with authorities identifying software engineering, artificial intelligence and data-driven industries as potential growth sectors capable of supporting industrialisation and employment creation.

However, authorities did not disclose funding details, implementation timelines, enrolment targets or the operational structure of the proposed hub.

Zimbabwe’s technology sector continues to face challenges including limited infrastructure capacity, unreliable electricity supply, constrained financing for startups and the migration of skilled ICT professionals to foreign markets.
