ZRP has arrested Kudzanai Hove in connection with the violent disturbances that erupted during the abandoned Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Hardrock FC and Dynamos FC at Chahwanda Stadium on May 24, 2026.
In their statement, police said: “The ZRP confirms the arrest of the CEO of Hardrock FC, Kudzanai Hove (44), in connection with the violence at Chahwanda Stadium on 24/05/26. More information will be released in due course.”
The arrest comes as investigations intensify into one of the worst incidents of crowd violence witnessed in Zimbabwean football on sunday. The highly anticipated PSL clash descended into chaos in the second half after supporters from both teams reportedly began hurling missiles at each other before invading the pitch. The violence forced match officials to abandon the match in the 80th minute with the score tied at 1-1.

According to police, at least seven supporters were injured during the disturbances and were admitted to Kwekwe General Hospital in stable condition. Stadium infrastructure, including barricades and turnstiles, was also damaged during the chaos.
Authorities are also investigating reports that nearly 5,000 fans were left stranded outside the stadium at kick-off, leading to overcrowding and security breaches as some supporters allegedly forced their way into the venue.
The violence sparked widespread condemnation from football authorities and government officials. The Premier Soccer League confirmed that it is awaiting official reports from match officials before determining disciplinary action against the clubs involved.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture warned that the disturbances could damage Zimbabwe’s efforts to improve the image of local football and restore confidence in the country’s sporting infrastructure.
