SRC is Offside: Football fans

Football fans have come out guns blazing against the Sports and Recreation Commission, accusing it of being selfish and heartless.

On Thursday the SRC announced that the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) should adopt a new constitution as one of the things which they want to be addressed, following recommendations of the Zifa Restructuring Committee.

However, football fans have shown the middle finger to the SRC, arguing that they are majoring in minors while destroying careers.

Zimbabwe is currently suspended from international football, which means that they cannot participate in tournaments like the ongoing African Nations Championship.

CHAN is a platform where locally-based footballers showcase their talents, attracting scouts and eventually joining teams that offer better packages across our borders.

“I think the SRC board is bloated with people who are selfish, they should understand that football is business, which is putting food on different tables. Their boardroom fights with Kamambo (Felton) should not affect players,” said Tinashe Chakadza.

Mandlekosi Moyo said that the SRC should reconsider its decisions.

“I plead with the SRC to reconsider its stance and feel for the players. So many careers have gone down the drain with this fight. We have deprived our players an opportunity to better their lives,” said Moyo.

Moyo added that he misses cheering the Warriors and the Mighty Warriors.

“As a football fan I do miss cheering the Warriors and the Mighty Warriors, sometimes they do disappoint but for me, they are a therapy,” he added.

Football players like France-based Marshal Munetsi have called for an immediate solution to this impasse.

“The ban on our national teams from international football, and our local teams from international cup competitions is quite sad. Football has since evolved into a sport that’s more than just a sport. Many livelihoods now depend on it. It’s a source of hope during tough times. Football is a uniting table where people with differences can sit together and feast at the spectacle we call the beautiful game,” Munetsi wrote on Twitter.
