Madombi Downplays R100K Reward Ahead of Dulibadzimu Clash

Vhembe Stars Academy head coach Blessing Madombi says his side is more concerned with making the club proud and doing things the right way than focusing on the R100,000 winning bonus promised by club president Loadwell Ziyadumah ahead of Saturday's Central Region Soccer League Beitbridge derby against Dulibadzimu United.

Ziyadumah recently pledged a R100,000 reward for the players to share should they defeat their local rivals, adding extra excitement to one of the most eagerly-awaited matches in the border town.

However, Madombi insisted that the academy's approach goes beyond financial incentives.

"The issue is not about the R100,000. We are more worried about doing things right than the amount thrown. However, well done to Mr Ziyadumah," said Madombi.

The Vhembe Stars coach believes victory in the derby would further underline the club's ambitions and its vision for football development in Beitbridge.

"I think we have set a very good tone for ourselves in terms of player welfare, how the club is run and our ambition, so this game will only solidify what the future holds for us and where Beitbridge football is heading towards," he said.

Madombi expects a tightly contested affair and believes the outcome will depend on which side makes the most of the few opportunities created.

"The game will be decided by how clinical one will be in the opposition box. There won't be many chances, but only a few," he said.

Meanwhile, Dulibadzimu United have received a timely boost after reappointing Rutherford Matondo as head coach with immediate effect ahead of the derby. Matondo returns to the club after a successful previous stint before leaving for FC Matobo.

Club officials expressed confidence that the experienced coach can revive the team's fortunes after a difficult run of draws and defeats.

Saturday's encounter carries more than just three points, with both clubs eager to claim local bragging rights. Dulibadzimu United are currently 12th on the Central Region Soccer League standings, two places above debutants Vhembe Stars Academy, who sit in 14th position.
