Man in court over 10 counts of theft

A 58-year-old man who is facing ten counts of theft of property appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi who remanded him to January 30, 2023.

Lamusi Nthula, 58, of Chief Chinamhora was at the Harare Magistrates' Court accused of unlawful entry into premises contravening Section 131(1)(a) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23.

The court heard that on May 25, 2020, Nthula cut the razor wire and jumped over the precast wall of number 21 Unit 9, Sherwood Drive, Mabelreign and opened the dining room window which he used to enter the house.

He stole a Samsung 42-inch plasma television set which was on a stand and its remote control. He contacted his associate, Richard Tsapi, who is still at large, to come with a car to carry the property. The total value of property that was stolen was ZWL$135 000 and nothing has been recovered.

The court heard several other counts of theft committed by Nthula in the Mabelreign, Avondale and Bluffhill areas. Nthula broke into several houses and stole an assortment of goods which included different sizes of television sets, groceries, jewellery, laptops and cellphones among other goods.

The total value stolen is ZWL$14 893 000 and only ZWL720 000 was recovered.
