Two St Ignatius College security guards, who allegedly stole more than US$7 000 at the institution and claimed it was stolen while they were sleeping have appeared in court.
Yona Phiri, 46, of Ndoro Village, Chishawa and Elliot Mudandaedza, 39, of Ndoro Village, Chishawasha, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi, at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of unlawful entry.
The State, through prosecutor Grace Mugocheke alleges that on October 1, 2013, at around 1800 hours, Phiri and Mudandaedza commenced duty as security guards at St Ignatius College, Chishawasha, from 1800 hours of the day of October 1, 2023, to 0300 hours, of October 2, 2023.
They forced-open three administration rooms, using iron bars, to enter inside and then broke the cabinets from which had US$7 016, an HP laptop, and went away with the property.
The two accused then allegedly pretended as if it was an outsider who had stolen from the premises, claiming they were asleep when the offence was committed.
The three were admitted to US$100 bail. They will appear in court November 6, for their routine remand.
