
The government has launched a joint law enforcement operation targeting illegal land sales and land barons in Zvishavane District amid growing concerns over the unlawful distribution of communal and agricultural land.
According to a notice dated 26 June 2026 from the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works, the operation will be carried out by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in conjunction with the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development.
The notice, issued by the District Development Coordinator (DDC) for Zvishavane, was addressed to all chiefs in the district.
Authorities said the operation is aimed at curbing the illegal distribution, parcelling out and sale of communal and agricultural land across the district.

The government said it had noted with concern a rising trend of illegal land transactions within communal areas.
According to the notice, reports indicate that some village heads are allegedly engaging in what it described as "sabhuku deals", involving the subdivision of communal grazing land, riverbanks and State land for sale to home seekers.
The DDC advised chiefs that police officers would begin visiting their respective areas during the week commencing 30 June 2026 as part of the enforcement exercise.
The notice was signed by District Development Coordinator D. Chokera and forms part of the government's efforts to address illegal land sales and protect communal land from unauthorised allocation and development.
