A 39-year-old Dangamvura man has been sentenced to an effective two years in prison after he was convicted of driving a public service vehicle while heavily intoxicated.
Masawi Kasirai appeared before the Mutare Magistrates’ Court facing a charge of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
The court heard that on June 19, 2026, Kasirai was driving a Toyota Hiace public service vehicle northwards along the Mutare-Chimanimani Road.
Although there were no passengers in the vehicle at the time, police officers noticed that Kasirai was driving in a manner that obstructed other road users.

He was stopped at a police roadblock and arrested after officers observed that he was visibly intoxicated.
A breathalyser test showed that Kasirai had an alcohol concentration of 178mg per 100ml, almost six times the legal limit of 30mg per 100ml.
The breathalyser results were produced in court as evidence and led to his conviction.
The court subsequently sentenced Kasirai to an effective two years in prison.
