A 23-year-old Karoi truck driver who was caught driving with more than double the legal alcohol limit has been sentenced to two years in prison and banned from driving for life.
Nigel Chikomba was convicted of driving under the influence of alcohol by the Karoi Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that on October 7, 2026, police officers on patrol near Chikangwe stopped Chikomba while he was driving a UD 40 truck carrying one passenger.
The officers suspected he was intoxicated and administered a breathalyser test.
The test revealed an alcohol concentration of 215 milligrams per 100 millilitres, against the legal limit of 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres.
He was arrested at the scene and subsequently convicted.
